On 1 October 2026, our partner InHort (Instytut Ogrodnictwa) joined the HortiQD System Integration & Deployment Workshop, hosted in Nantes, France, and organized together with SITIA.

The workshop brought together representatives from across the consortium, including Fraunhofer ENAS, the Center for Microtechnologies (ZfM) at TU Chemnitz, HiTech Group, Bioobst Görnitz, and Agrion, to align on one of the project’s most technically demanding milestones: moving HortiQD’s hyperspectral sensing system from concept to real, in-field deployment.

Structured around four perspectives, agriculture and measurement, autonomous tractor and deployment, camera and illumination, and system integration, the day followed a clear working method: align, review, refine, plan, mitigate, commit. Sessions covered the deployment and measurement concept, a practical review of integration onto the autonomous tractor platform, system refinement, resource and responsibility planning, and risk mitigation scenarios for the upcoming measurement campaign.

A key focus of the discussion was the project’s modular RGB and SWIR camera architecture, built around the Quantum Dot SWIR sensor at the heart of HortiQD, and how its mounting, illumination, power, and data interfaces need to come together on an autonomous tractor operating under real orchard conditions.

Bringing together partners with such different areas of expertise, agronomy, robotics, optics, and systems integration, around the same table is exactly what allows a project like HortiQD to move from a strong concept to a solution that actually works in the field.
